DEATH TOLL RISES TO NINE AS FOUR MISSING FT. HOOD SOLDIERS ARE FOUND

After an extensive search along a Fort Hood creek, the death toll has risen to nine as four soldiers were found Friday afternoon after they had gone missing when a truck overturned in swift water.

Three others were found dead shortly after the 2 ½-ton truck overturned in Owl Creek during a morning training exercise on army post in Killeen. Three soldiers who were rescued are in stable condition at the base hospital.

None of the soldiers that have died will be identified publicly until relatives of each have been notified.

A Fort Hood spokesman said the truck was swept away as it was going over a crossing that had been flooded by two days of heavy rains.
