FUND RAISING COMMITTE FORMED FOR WCHLA

  

A new committee has been formed to assists the Washington County Healthy Living Association raise funds for a new senior center.

The Association’s new Capital Campaign Fundraising Committee will try to raise the one-and-a-half million dollars still needed to build the center.

The AThe received half-million dollar “challenge” grant from the Mabee Foundation. The WCHLA must raise $1.6 million by next Oct. 8 to receive that grant.

The committee has launched a letter campaign asking for donations, which includes a promotional flyer updating the community on progress toward a new center.

WCHLA has a site for a new center. John and Julie Kenjura donated 4.2 acres of land on Tom Green Street. WCHLA has also hired an architect to develop plans and an estimate of costs.

Membership of the WCHLA has increased from 85 in 2003 to more than 1,600 currently.

The senior center averages 110 meals per day. An average of 66 meals a day are delivered to homebound members.
