FUNDRAISING BEGINS FOR NEW WASHINGTON FIREHOUSE

Fundraising efforts are underway as the Washington Fire Department looks to build a new firehouse.

The department plans to construct a new facility on two-and-a-half acres of land, donated by landowner Robert Jensen, off Highway 105 and FM-1155 near William Penn Road.

Glenn Fuqua Incorporated has donated the excavation work and MBC Management has donated engineering services to the project.

Washington Fire Chief Clyde Miller says the current station is little more than a storage building, constructed in 1972 – 44 years ago.

Miller says with increase in population in the Washington-area, the truck fleet has grown to five vehicles, which are tightly packed into a building designed to house two trucks.

The department raised $600 this Sunday at the Texas Independence Day celebration at Washington on the Brazos.

Donations may be made to a Go Fund Me page on Facebook…just search “Washington Texas VFD”.
