FUNDS RAISED FOR FIRED HEARNE OFFICER

Fired Hearne police officer Stephen Stern is getting plenty of help from across the nation, after he lost his job soon after shooting a 93-year old woman earlier this month.

The Hearne City Council fired Stern on May 10th, four days after he shot and killed 93-year old Pearlie Golden.

The shooting death immediately sparked controversy.  A family member said Golden was angry at having her car keys taken from her after she had failed her driver’s license test.  The nephew said she took a pistol and fired it at least twice towards Stern who had been called to the scene of the disturbance.  In the days that followed there were several rallies, including one led by militant activist Quanell X demanding he be fired and even prosecuted for murder.

Not everyone agreed.   The Go Fund Me, account was set up by a police officer in Alabama and they have reached their goal, saying they had raised $5000 to help Stern with his expenses.

The plan is to keep the site up until Stern has a new job or financial stability.

The case is still under investigation.

The shooting was soon followed by protests in Hearne.

  1. Hopefully this officer was a member of a organization, ie; TMPA, CLEAT, etc. that protects officers from this type of outwardly unjustified termination. I hope the funds raised will be enough to hire an civil lawyer in his case against the City of Hearne.
