GOVERNOR SETS DATE FOR SPECIAL DISTRICT 13 REP. ELECTION

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has set the date for a special election to fill the unexpired term of former District 13 State Representative Leighton Schubert.

Abbott has called for a special election to be held on Saturday, May 5th, which is the same date as Texas elections for city and school board positions.  Schubert resigned his seat in the Texas House effective February 4th, and has since accepted a position with Blinn College.

May 5th may also be the date for a runoff election in the Republican Primary for District 13 State Representative.  There are five candidates vying to be the Republican candidate in the fall primary.  If none of them receive over 50% of the vote, a runoff election will be necessary.  The May 5th special election may include candidate from both parties, and the winner will serve as State Representative through the end of this year.
