GRIMES CO. AGAINST TRANSMISSION LINES

Grimes County Commissioners have told Cross Texas that a proposed project to run transmission lines through their county is not welcome.

Last fall, CenterPoint Energy and Cross Texas announced a proposed project for a double-circuit transmission line to run through Harris, Waller and Grimes counties, between the Zenith, Gibbons Creek and Limestone substations.

CenterPoint Energy representatives previously said that the proposed Brazos Valley Connection Project (BVCP), is needed since the demand for electricity will exceed supply in the Houston region by 2018.

Tuesday, Precinct 1 Commissioner J.R. Green told Cross Texas Transmission Project Development that he is against the transmission line, which he does not believe benefits the county.  Green added that the proposed projects are also decreasing local land values.

County Judge Ben Leman said that attempts to meet with the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) have been denied, but he is continuing his efforts via legislators.

Amongst other suggested alternatives, Leman said he is advising that electric companies upgrade existing facilities to carry a higher amount of kilovolts, since Texas has some that are up to 750kv.
