GRIMES CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE RECEIVES PROTECTIVE GEAR FOR K-9 OFFICERS

On Monday, the Grimes County Sheriff's Office K-9 Program received a monetary donation to purchase protective vests for both of its service animals.

The $1,990 donation was presented by Jan and Bob Roseman, who personally collected the money from their neighbors within the King Oaks Subdivision.

Both dogs came to the Grimes County Sheriff's Office in October 2016 and have been in service ever since.

According to Sheriff Don Sowell, Grimes County Patrol Deputy Steven Siracusa underwent a two-week training course through the K-9 University Academy of San Antonio. Siracusa has been partnered with Tweaker- a mixed breed American Pit Bulldog and Farrow. Tweaker is trained in detecting narcotics.

Grimes County Patrol Deputy Matt Ortega underwent a three week training course through the Houston K-9 Academy with his K-9 partner, Apache. The K-9 is a Belgium Melanosis and German Shepard mix. Apache is a dual purpose K-9 trained in fugitive apprehension, tracking, and detecting narcotics.
