GRIMES COUNTY TRIAL COULD END IN HUNG JURY

Jurors continue to deliberate in the case of a Grimes County man accused of sexual abuse of a young child.

24-year old Jose-Luis Perez Tamez of Plantersville is on trial at the Grimes County Courthouse in Anderson.

According to the Navasota Examiner, jurors have been deliberating for two days and have not reached a verdict in the case, leading some to believe a hung jury is likely.

The prosecution claims Tamez, in addition to the sexual assaults, also showed the victim and other children pornographic videos.

The defense says the accusations are false and part of a contentious dispute between Tamez and the alleged victim’s family.

Both the state and defense attorneys said they are in favor of continued deliberation, as long as jurors stay true to their conscience.

If the jury is unable to reach a unanimous verdict, the court would have to declare a mistrial and discharge the jury.

If so, the indictment would still be pending, and the case will likely be tried again before another jury at some future time.
