GUN FOUND AT BRENHAM JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Brenham police and officials at Brenham Junior High School have confirmed they recovered an unloaded handgun at the Junior High campus Tuesday morning after receiving a tip a firearm may have been brought to campus.

Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps says that Junior High School Resource Officer David Webb was approached Tuesday morning regarding the possibility of a student having a weapon in a backpack.

Webb immediately made contact with the student and school officials. The student admitted to having an unloaded pistol in the backpack.

Webb took possession of the weapon and took the student into custody,” said.

Phelps says police believe this is an isolated incident. It is one that both the police department and school district take very seriously and the investigation is continuing.

Phleps notes that the weapon was unloaded and no ammunition was found with the gun.

The Brenham Police Department will be charging the juvenile with a criminal offense for possession of a firearm on school district property.

Phelps says “The safety of the students is paramount to the department, school officials and the community,”.

  1. I’m curious as to where the student obtained the weapon in the first place. It’s very fortunate that Brenham PD acted so quickly and got the weapon before something worse could happen.

  2. And if the gun were to be loaded, the kid started shooting, there would have been many helpless people- this is the reality of deciding to not have armed personnel in our schools

  3. Come on bisd we need metal detectors before it’s too late, lets not let our students be harmed as they are trying to get an education!
