HEARNE ISD STATE TAKEOVER APPEAL EXTENDED UNTIL MAY 1ST

Hearne ISD has until May 1st to appeal plans by the state to remove the school board and superintendent.

HISD's  appeal was originally due yesterday (Thursday), but the district is getting an extension because the school board had to meet on Monday for formal action.

The state education commissioner is moving to replace the superintendent and school board because it lacks "educational leadership" and is in violation of state and agency rules.

Commissioner Mike Morath said that Superintendent Adrain Johnson and board members in Hearne are failing to work together. Morath also says board members have circumvented the board and taken action on their own, and operated a business office that lacked internal controls.

The state, meanwhile, has lowered the district's accreditation.
