HEARNE PRINCIPAL INDICTED–SUSPENDED

A principal in the Hearne ISD has been indicted on Injury to a Child charges.

Ronny Welborn

Hearne Junior High Principal, Dr. Ronny Welborn is under investigation over a case of corporal punishment.  Welborn turned himself into the Robertson County jail following the indictment.

The Robertson County District Attorney says he believes the punishment went too far.  A family member of the child told KBTX in Bryan, that the 12-year-old received three swats with a wooden paddle on October 2nd.

Welborn's attorney, Jim James, says they plan to enter a not guilty plea, saying the punishment was standard procedure and permission had been given.

Welborn is free after posting $5,000 bond.

  1. Wow really 3 swats?? People stop making your kids unaccountable for their actions!! If more kids got swats at school maybe they might understand what they did was wrong!! Maybe the parents should get the swats next time!!

  2. I always have permission for them to correct my son in school & my niece when she lived with us. They were told if they did something at school that required licks, they would also receive licks at home, & I followed through. As a result my son has never been in trouble, given us any trouble & has grown into a very nice respectable man. He is now raising his own son & doing a great job. These kids have to have boundaries or we will have more & more of them growing up with a lack of respect of the law.

  3. This is why we have school shootings and church shootings, the rules don’t apply to everyone. I received swats or licks at school and then at home if deemed necessary. Life has consequences and if you do the deed you should be able to handle the consequences!
