A Hempstead man has been sentenced to 26-years in prison after pleading guilty to theft of property and evading arrest.

48-year old Marlon Bryant received a 26-year sentence for each charge, sentences that will run concurrently.  He faced at least 25 years in prison because of prior criminal convictions.

In June of 2014, Bryant and another man reportedly stole around $24,000 of property from a storage building owned by the City of College Station.  Among the stolen items; a riding mower and a side-by-side ATV, as well as string trimmers, power tools and other lawn equipment.

Bryant was pulled over by College Station police for a traffic violation.  He fled, leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when he drove into a ditch.  Bryant then fled on foot but left his wallet in the driver's seat. He was later arrested on a warrant.
