HEMPSTEAD POLICE OFFICER NEARLY KILLED STOPPING HIGH SPEED CHASE

A Hempstead police officer was nearly killed after a high speed chase on Sunday night.

Police say 21-year old Corey Jackson faces charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and attempted capital murder of a police officer, and 24-year old Jakord Hickman is charged with evading arrest after the two didn’t stop for a traffic stop.

Hempstead police officer Lt. Noel Shelton had just laid out some spike strips to try and stop the vehicle, but because the vehicle was going so fast, the officer didn’t have time to get them out properly.

“The suspect driving the vehicle veered toward him in an attempt to strike and hit the officer,” says Waller County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam.

Jackson and Hickman finally stopped and ran from the scene, but were eventually arrested.

Prosecutors say officers found a pound and half of marijuana in the car.
