The 28th Annual Watermelon Festival is set for this weekend in Hempstead.
Tonight’s (Friday) events include: the junior barbeque cook off at 6:00, a street dance at Depot Park at 7:00 and the Friday Night Band from 8:00-to-midnight. The carnival opens at 5:00.
The annual Watermelon Parade kicks off Saturday’s events at 9:00 a.m. The opening ceremony and queen’s crowning is set for 10:30 at Gazebo Park.
Barbeque judging begins at 11:30 at Gazebo Park.

Saturday’s activities culminate with a street dance from 9:00-to-midnight at Depot Park with the Brown Sugar Band.
Brown adds that there will be plenty of activities for the youngsters as well…
