HIGHWAY 36 TRAFFIC SIGNAL ACTIVATED WEDNESDAY

The Texas Department of Transportation has activated the temporary traffic signal at SH 36 and Business 36. All traffic will be routed through this newly constructed temporary intersection. Traffic on SH 36 southbound will access Business 36 by making a left turn at the new traffic signal. Similarly, traffic on SH 36 northbound will access Business 36 by making a right turn at the new traffic signal. This will enable TXDOT’S contractor to remove the existing bridge and construct the permanent intersection. The signal work was to happen on October 16th, but was changed to October 23 due to a problem with the traffic control plan. The project is scheduled to completed in the summer of 2015. 1. Me and Kneedeep are thinking the same thing. I kept wondering if it would have been cheaper to put up a concrete barrier. Heck, run it all the way out to the Exxon. That way, the u-turners could just turn in to the gas station and then get back on 36. I’m sure there’d have been a few who would have still done the u-turn, on the hill. But, if they’re doing that, then they’re contribution to society was small, given the brain power they were exerting, and they wouldn’t be missed after they got smushed. Now, we have this great new light, that just this morning, someone ran through the red light and turned AFTER THE LEFT HAND TURN FOR BRENHAM, to hold up traffic. But, hay, if we can all hold on for maybe 30 more years, good ole TxDOT will have another epiphany and think that light is a deathtrap and we need an overpass there!!

  2. Since the completion of the 30 something million dollar renovation that was supposed to streamline traffic through 290, and 36 north, our all knowing TXdot has added 3 traffic lights to these same routes, Who the heck is running this show? All they needed to do was put in a concrete barrier, and a crossover with a stop sign for the lazy people that insisted on making u-turns. The ones that continued to make the turns without paying attention, well, Darwinism, but as with the others commenting, this has to top stupid of all wasted projects TXdot has done around here

  3. I agree with the rest. Tex Dot is nuts. There was absolutely no reason for all this change .We had a close to perfect merging situation on this highway. Just because there were a few accidents there, they think that they have to reinvent everything. Maybe they should think about lowering the speed limit. I am totally convinced that the state is trying to kill as many of us as possible. Really? Raise the speed limit to 100 mph and idiots will drive 115 mph.!!! This is why I will vote against every proposition on the ballot for the rest of my life that gives any more money to highway construction because nobody in any position of authority knows how to spend it properly! I know there are a lot of highway projects that need to be done, but current leadership does not have a clue!!!!!!!

  4. I agree with everyone here so far!! I have to go through this several times a day and it’s just a mess. My father has been in a wreck here because of people making their stupid u-turns, whether it being because they don’t want to go the other way and just use 577 to get back to 36 or be it they miss the Austin exit, which this temporary intersection has not fixed. Those u-turns will still be made.

  5. I want to thank all the people that did the illegal u – turns at this junction for this. Because of you you made this mess. Hope you are happy watching all of us suffer

  6. I agree with Bill. This whole thing is a mess!! I go through this mess several times a day just to get to town. Probably gonna cause more accidents than current set-up. Total cluster!!!!!!

  7. What a cluster! Not only do we have wildly high taxes (to pay for all this), kids running amuck now we had this cluster idea for this intersection and a contractor who is not there two thirds of the time. Who’s in charge of this mess?
