Running back Earnest Patterson and quarterback Caleb Hill played for the West squad in Saturday night’s 2014 Bayou Bowl All-Star game at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown.

Hill was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player in the West's 27-9 victory.

Hill completed 8-of-13 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

The first score was a 16-yard pass to Patterson, to give the West the lead, 7-3 early in the second quarter.

"I saw they had one-on-one coverage on Earnest.  So I checked to him...got him the ball and he did the rest," said Hill on Monday's Brenham Sports Line on KWHI.

Patterson took the pass, made a spin move on the defender and sprinted into the end zone.

"I told Earnest," said Hill, "I'm going to get you the ball and you're going to score a touchdown.  He (Patterson) was so close to breaking the opening kickoff.  He was inches from taking it all the way until a guy makes a shoestring tackle."

Ernest Patterson ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

In the second half, Hill put the game out of reach when he fired a 20-yard touchdown strike through two defenders to Nick Peleran,  for an insurmountable 27-3 lead.

"I was really happy with that pass.  I was able to thread the ball right between the two guys on defense and give my receiver a chance to catch it."

Hill was Brenham’s starting quarterback for the past two seasons, throwing for 4.804 yards and 49 touchdowns—both, third most in Cubs’ history.

This past season, Hill threw for 2,281 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Patterson is the all-time career rushing leader in Cubs’ history, with 5,076 yards.  He is also Brenham’s all-time leading scorer with 67 career touchdowns.

This past season, Patterson ran for 2,332 yards and 31 TDs.

Both Patterson and Hill will be suiting up for the Blinn Buccaneers in the fall.
