HOUSE PASSES DEBT CEILING BUT MCCAUL VOTES AGAINST MEASURE

The U.S House voted to raise the debt limit Tuesday, extending the Treasury’s borrowing authority but local congressional representative Michael McCaul was not among them.

Congressman McCaul issued a statement saying he voted against the measure because it was giving the Obama Administration ‘a blank check’.  He expressed his continued concerns about the $17 trillion national debt.  McCaul said the debt ceiling was raised without conditions.  Once again, McCaul called for significant cuts in the entitlement programs.

The House passed the debt ceiling raise with a 221-201 vote. Twenty-eight Republicans voted yes.  The bill permits the Treasury department to borrow normally for the next 13 months and defuse any debt crisis well past the November elections. The bill still needs to pass the Senate.
