Brian Hoyer has been named the Houston Texans' starting quarterback..

Coach Bill O'Brien announced the decision on Monday, saying Hoyer won the job over Ryan Mallett because of his composure and consistency.

Hoyer started 13 games for the Cleveland Browns last season before signing with the Texans in the off season.

He completed 55-percent of his passes for 3,326 yards and 12 touchdowns, while throwing 13 interceptions.

Mallett started just two games for the Texans last year after being named the starter in week-11.

He completed 41-of-75 passes (54.7%) for 400 yards and two touchdowns before a torn pectoral muscle in week-12 ended his season.

The Texans visit New Orleans, Saturday afternoon at 3:00 for their third exhibition game.

The season opener is Sunday, September 13th at home to Kansas City at noon on KWHI.
