HUGE UPSET IN WOMEN’S FINAL FOUR

Former Brenham Cubette Teaira McCowan is playing for a National Championship Sunday night at 5.

One of the most dominate programs in basketball history was shocked on Friday night. Conneticut had strung together 111 consecutive wins leading into the game, but Mississippi State and former Brenham Cubette Teaira McCowan had other plans. The Lady Bulldogs were underdogs in the game, but came out strong against UCONN early in the game, leading 27-13 in the second before heading into the half leading 36-28. UCONN made a big comeback late in the game to tie things up at the end of regulation. Then with just seconds left in overtime UCONN tied the game at 62 after a fragrant foul and a chance to win, but the Lady Bulldogs forced a turnover and Morgan William, who missed a game winning shot at the end of regulation, did not waver and sunk a jump shot to right of the free throw line at the buzzer to seal the upset. McCowan had a strong outing for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and a block. The Championship game has been set for Sunday evening at 5:00 when Mississippi St. will face South Carolina.
