INMATE AT WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL DIES

  

An inmate at the Washington County Jail was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive earlier today (Thursday).Jail bars

According to Sheriff Otto Hanak, a 67-year-old Hispanic male was found unresponsive in his cell at the Washington County Jail at approximately 4:00 a.m. Emergency Medical Services was summoned to the scene and the death was later pronounced by Justice of the Peace Douglas Zwiener.

Authorities say that the death appears to be due to natural causes, however the inmate’s body has been sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

As is standard protocol for an in-custody death, the Texas Rangers were notified to conduct an investigation in addition to that of the Sheriff’s Office.

The inmate’s identity and details of his incarceration are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
