INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT NAMED IN SOMERVILLE

  

Somerville ISD has named its interim superintendent.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction Karla Sparks will take over duties, in a move approved during a special meeting last week.  This follows former superintendent Charles Camarillo accepting the Poteet ISD superintendent position in April, after 13 years with Somerville.

Sparks is expected to work through the fall, when the school board will then decide to hire her full-time or open the position to the public.  The Somerville school board said that its search for a full-time superintendent proved difficult, because most superintendents are already set in their positions for the coming school year.

Sparks has worked in the district for six years as the secondary school principal, as well as the director of curriculum and instruction.  Before arriving in Somerville, Sparks was the assistant principal at Magnolia West High School from 2007-2012, and taught biology for ten years at Magnolia High School prior to that.
