JAMES FISHER SELECTED AS BRENHAM’S NEXT CITY MANAGER

James Fisher (R) is greeted by current City Manager Terry Roberts.

James Fisher of Forney Texas was the choice of the City Council to become Brenham’s next City Manager.  Council voted unanimously Thursday afternoon to hire Fisher.  His first day as City Manager will be January 11th.  Fisher will be replacing current City Manager Terry Roberts, who has served in that position for the past 17 years.

Fisher says he is excited about coming to Brenham:

James Fisher has served in municipal management for the past 28 years.  He began career in Castroville Texas in 1995 serving as City Administrator.  He also served as City Administrator in the Austin suburb of Bee Cave from 1998 to 2008.  He served as City Manager of the Dallas metroplex city of Murphy for 8 years.  He most recently served as City Manager in the city of Forney Texas.

When asked if he considered himself pro-business or pro-resident, Fisher replied this way:

Brenham Mayor said that it was a tough choice to make, with all of the finalists being strong candidates.  He commended the council for the multiple interviews and discussions in making their decision.  Tate said that it was their consensus that Fisher was the best fit for both the city organization and the community.

Fisher will begin his duties as City Manager January 11th.  He said his wife Christi Beth and son Daniel, who is a senior in High School will remain in Forney until the school year ends.  They plan on joining him here in Brenham in the summer.

  1. Welcome to Brenham Mr. Fisher, Congratulations on being appointed City Manager. I wish you much success .

  2. Welcome aboard, Mr. Fisher. You will love Brenham. Hope you lower the taxes. Happy Landing.

  3. Good to see the new blood. Sounds like he will see through the bull and clean the swamp and fix what has been broken to save taxpayer dollars. No more three assistant city manager positions, that should decrease the wages of those inflated unnessessary payed positions. Hopefully, an evaluation of all nonessential directors when supervisors could report directly to the City Manager. Giddi-up.

    1. So true maybe he will get rid of those Asst Cit managers that don’t even have a college degree!! But yet again this is Brenham where the good ole boy system is still in effect and your ot judged on what u know but who u know!

      1. I agree, it should finally happen now. The profile of city assistant management will finally change and nonessential management and directors will be obsolete. Saving millions for the taxpayers. It is time for accountability to be critiqued. With this change in the city CEO, year 2018 should the best in the new millennium. Happy New Year Brenham Taxpayers!

        1. I am optimistic as a local commercial business owner. I had decided to relocate my business outside of the city limits. I like my location but with taxes increasing every year and a nagging city that sends me notices just because my property doesn’t look like a golf course; conducting business in Brenham has become unbearable. I will give it another year with the new management. I figure it can’t get no worst, so I’ll give it another year.
