JIM WITTER’S CHRISTMAS MEMORIES AT BLINN’S O’DONNELL CENTER

An award-winning Canadian recording artist is bringing classic Christmas favorites to Brenham just in time for the holidays.

Jim Witter’s Christmas Memories will bring an evening of Christmas music both old and new to Blinn’s Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11. The second performance of Blinn’s 2015-16 Performing Art Series will feature Witter’s vocals and accompaniment, as well as a guitarist, drummer and bassist, set before a backdrop of photos and videos of Christmas memories, both personal and communal.

Witter, an award-winning Canadian recording artist, will bring the magic of the season to life with “Winter Wonderland,” “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and other holiday hits.

Witter’s music and songwriting have been recognized in Canada and the U.S., earning several awards and nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association, as well as the Juno and Dove awards. His most notable show, “The Piano Men,” is a musical journey through the ’70s, featuring songs by Billy Joel and Elton John. The show has received rave reviews from music critics across North America and has traveled overseas to Dubai, England, Scotland and Holland.

“For this series, we wanted to offer something for everyone, and something seasonal right around Christmastime,” said Kevin Patrick, Brenham campus technical theatre director. “This performance is going to bring phenomenal music and it will be a great time for the whole family. It’s something unique the community should experience.”

The performance is the second in the 2015-16 Performing Arts Series that opened with the Irish song and dance troupe The Young Irelanders, and continues with “Nelson Illusions Smoke and Mystery Tour” on March 30 and a performance of “Pirates of Penzance” by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players on April 10. All shows take place at the O’Donnell Center on the Blinn-Brenham campus (map).

Individual show tickets are $30 for general admission and $20 for Blinn employees. Season tickets, which include a catered reception prior to each event, are $75 for the three remaining shows. Season tickets are available through Dec. 11. Student rush tickets are $10 at the box office the day of the event. All seats are reserved.

The box office, which opens one hour prior to the show, is located in the lobby of the O’Donnell Center at 600 Blinn Boulevard and accepts both cash and credit. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.blinn.edu/performingartsseries or by calling 979-830-4024.  Story courtesy of Blinn College.
