AggieYell.com has named Joe Routt of Brenham to its “All Time Aggie Football Team”.  Routt played offensive guard for Texas A&M from 1934 to 1937.  He was an All American in 1936 and 1937, and was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1962.  Routt didn’t even play football during his first season on the A&M campus.  Coach Homer Norton convinced him to play in 1934, and said Routt had one of the biggest hearts and was one of the best fighters he had ever seen.

Routt was a second round pick of the Cleveland Rams, but joined the military to serve in World War II.  He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.  Joe Routt Boulevard in College Station is named in his honor.
