A long-time fixture at the Washington County Courthouse has died.

Justice of the Peace for Precinct-Three Roy May died early Wednesday morning after a battle with Cancer.

May came to Brenham from Jasper in the late 1980’s and purchased KULF Radio Station along with his son Jon Dee May, who was killed in an auto accident in the mid 1990’s.

The Mays had owned several station in East Texas.

Judge May took office in August of 1996 after he was appointed to the post to succeed the retiring Judge Jim Tom House.

In this past March’s Republican Primary, May was defeated in his bid for reelection by Retired Marine Corp. Captain Ken Tofel, who is scheduled to take office in January.

Funeral arrangements for Judge Roy May are pending.

  1. My thoughts and prayers go out to Janice and the May family. Judge May and his family were always so kind to me. My heart breaks for their loss.

  2. Judge May was an outstanding person, mentor and friend. As a former employee of KULF, I saw on a daily basis how devoted to his family he was. My prayers go out to Janice and the entire family.

    I know my heart speaks not only for myself but also for my husband, the late and former Sheriff JW Jankowski. Our Love and prayers goes out to Janice, Andy and Children.
