KATY MILLS MALL ISSUES SHOPPERS WARNING

The Katy Police Department and Katy Mills mall are warning shoppers to be on alert for criminal activity in their parking lot as the holidays approach.

On Friday, a mother and her 2 year old son were leaving the mall and the mother was placing her son in his car seat. As she was about to get into the driver’s seat, the mother had a gun put in her face and a man demanded her purse.

The mother pointed to her purse on the passenger seat. The man then proceeded to lean in and grab it. The man then drove off with the purse

The mother describes the vehicle as a black Mitsubishi with paper plates. She says the man was wearing sunglasses and a hat.

The stolen credit cards were already being used less than two hours after the robbery.

The mother now says she will no longer shop alone.

The following written statement was received from the Katy Mills General Manager Don Massey:

"Our top priority is the safety of our shoppers, retailers and their employees. We are fully cooperating with the Katy Police Department as they investigate this isolated incident. As part of our comprehensive year-round security measures, we will continue to work closely with local police and utilize T3s, bike patrols, hand held computer units, CCTV systems and more. We encourage shoppers to report all suspicious activity to a 24-hour security hotline that also provides shopping safety tips."
