KOLHORST RUNS FOR REELECTION

  

District 13 State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham has filed for another term. 

First elected in 2000, Kolkhorst is a lifelong Washington County resident.  Her district includes Washington, Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes and Lavaca counties.  That’s more than five thousand square miles in rural Texas that runs from the Brazos Valley to the Coastal Plains.

In her statement announcing for reelection, the Brenham Republican said she was ‘dedicated to representing the people and ideals of this unique part of Texas.

She has risen in prominence in her tenure in the House.  She is the Chair of the House Committee on Public Health, overseeing the state’s health care system.  She is also a member of the County Affairs Committee, where she works on policy impacting the county government for all of the state’s 254 counties.

Kolkhorst has also managed funds for public schools, community colleges, universities, and medical schools, and has been honored by both the Texas Retired Teachers Association as well as the College of Education at Sam Houston State.

She has written and proposed bills that tackle a variety of issues from healthcare, criminal justice, agriculture and water policies.

Kolkhorst has not faced any opposition in her previous elections and, at this point she has no opposition.

The Republican Primary is in March.
