KOLKHORST ADDRESSES HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst says, “Words cannot describe the acts of kindness and heroics seen by emergency personnel and volunteers that have come from across Texas and the nation,” in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

State Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst

During the past week, Kolkhorst has traveled across Senate District 18 and says she will continue to do so in the weeks to come.

Kolkhorst accompanied President Trump, Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick this week, and says the resolve and resilience of Texans has been a constant inspiration

Kolkhorst says, “Our recovery and rebuilding effort will be a long road, but together we will rise above any storm or flood.  We are Texas strong. We are Texas tough. We are Texans helping Texans. We are Americans helping Americans, and that is why we shall succeed. “

Kolkhorst says there are numerous agencies providing relief.  Information on contacting those agencies can be found on our website, www.kwhi.com.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Apply for FEMA aide at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-(800)-621-3362.

Have this information ready when you apply: Social Security number, Address of the damaged home or apartment, Description of the damage, Information about insurance coverage, Telephone number, Mailing address, Bank account & routing numbers for direct deposit of funds.

Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency (TWIA)

TWIA policyholders that sustained windstorm damage can file claims by visiting www.TWIA.org/claimscenter or calling TWIA’s 24-hour claims center at 1-800-788-8247.

Texas Department of Insurance (TDI)

For assistance filing a personal claim, visit www.tdi.texas.gov or call the Texas Department of Insurance’s Consumer hotline at 1-800-252-3439.

House Bill 1774

There has been a huge amount of misinformation circulating about HB 1774 as it relates to catastrophic events like we are experiencing due to Harvey. HB 1774 does not affect the claims process. Instead, it affects only the lawsuits that sometimes follow the claims process. Furthermore, this legislation supported by the vast majority of coastal lawmakers does not create a new deadline for action by policyholders. Texans will continue to have some of the strongest consumer protections in the nation.

If there is any information you feel needs to be shared or any additional way my office can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Because of folks like you, I know we will rebuild and recover and the Lone Star State will shine brighter than ever.
