KOLKHORST APPOINTED TO BUDGET CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

  

Senator Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, has been appointed to the budget conference committee.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick appointed five Senators to serve on the powerful budget conference committee tasked with producing the final version of the state spending bill; the only piece of legislation lawmakers must pass.

The Senate team will be led by Senate Finance Chair Jane Nelson and includes Senators Juan 'Chuy' Hinojosa, Joan Huffman, and Charles Schwertner, in addition to Kolkhorst.

The House of Representatives will soon appoint their respective conferees.

The conference committee is responsible for funding the state's priorities with a balanced budget that reconciles the differences that currently exist between the Senate and House proposals of $217.7 billion and $218.1 billion respectively.

"I am honored to have been selected by Lt. Governor Patrick for such an important responsibility," said Senator Kolkhorst. "Negotiations will be taking place during the final budget process and I am fully committed to supporting a fiscally responsible and conservative budget for the State of Texas."

Senator Kolkhorst has previously served three times on the state's budget conference committee.
