KOLKHORST STANDS BEHIND CONTROVERSIAL ‘BATHROOM BILL’

More than 150 entertainers sent an open letter to Texas lawmakers on Tuesday, asking them to reject legislation that would require people to use bathrooms based on their birth genders in public schools and state and local government facilities.

While the Texas Privacy Act has already faced opposition from a wide range of groups, Senator Lois Kolkhorst, the author of the bill, says she stands behind the legislation.

"Texans support the Texas Privacy Act because it guarantees an expected level of privacy in our schools and government buildings, while still allowing private businesses and leased public venues to set their own policy” said Kolkhorst.

The letter in opposition to the legislation was signed by a number of popular entertainers including Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lawrence, and Ewan McGregor.

“The bottom line is that men do not belong in women's public restrooms, and no amount of grandstanding from Hollywood will change that” said Kolkhorst.

Meanwhile, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the passage of the bill might impact future league events held in Texas. Kolkhorst says she doesn’t believe the bill is at odds with the NFL’s call for “inclusiveness”

"I completely share the sentiments of the NFL. That's why the Texas Privacy Act ensures that our state continues the same welcoming environment we all enjoy at NFL events” said Kolkhorst. “The Texas Privacy Act is a thoughtful way to protect the privacy and safety of everyone and is similar to a policy already approved by Houston voters, who successfully hosted the Super Bowl this month."

The Texas Privacy Act has 15 of 20 Republican senators as co-authors and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has named the bill a priority for passage this legislative session.

  1. sounds like the tail wagging the dog the few are trying to control the masses that’s what’s wrong with this country too many cry babies

  2. I don’t support this bill or kolkhorst.. I can not stand anyone or thing that represents the LGBT community. It is not Christian or moral in my book. I also do not care one bit about what overpaid entertainer or athletic organization that threatens to boycott Texas. I will say that men that think they are women or vice versa have been using the bathroom they choose to for years. No one ever knew who was in the other stall. It is only a wasteful spending issue now to keep from hurting feelings.. Quit wasting money and focus on MAJOR issues with our state. As for the perverts that see this bill as the opportunity to prey on women and children- there are many many many CHL holders out there. Pee wisely!

  3. It is a non-issue. There are no documented cases in the court system of this ever being a problem. It is a political stunt pure and simple to be able for politicians to say they are looking out for the best interest of the children. This energy would better serve the voters by creating jobs, and not focusing on social issues.

    1. Obama brought this on when he decreed that schools should let students use the restrooms and locker rooms of their choice. Naturally, most Texans have enough common sense to know this ain’t right. I understand that some of the California transplants might be a little fuzzy on moral issues, but they don’t make up the majority of voters. That’s why most of us voted for common sense candidates who would counteract this nonsense from the previous administration. You would be right that it WAS a non-issue, until it was forced on us last year. I read the letter sent to all school districts and it was threatening towards schools that didn’t fall in line with the left’s perversion. It looks like the radical left overplayed their hand at the end of the last administration and this is where it got them. The Democrats now have zero power. As Obama once said, “Elections have consequences.” For once, he was right.

    2. There is never a problem until there is one. Especially if you sit back and invite the problem in. There are jobs to be had, especially if you get UP and get one.

  4. I would not approve men going into women’s restrooms or vice versa. Before Obama made this an issue by requiring separate bathrooms for transgender, there had been no issue. People that dressed like women went in women’s restrooms, those dressed like a man went into men’s room. I may have shared a restroom with a transgender and never known it.

There was always the issue of those Intent on committing sexual offenses in public restrooms. There are laws still on the books to address those predators. The passing of this law will not prevent those from occurring.

The purpose of the bill is to legally define the people who have access to a public restroom, based on their sexual identity at birth. The bill would thus allow sexual discrimination towards those that have had sex changes very early in their life and those that have always identified themselves as something different than the genitalia of birth. I myself would tend to have compassion for them. I do not understand the biology or science behind their choice, anymore than I do why some people choose to hate them for their choice.

I believe the intent of Obama’s decision was to provide some sort of recognition of the existence of transgender in a legal sense, in as much as we have legally required handicapped modifications and parking at public buildings. However, I believe these rules were implemented for handicapped for their safety and to enable them to be able to help themselves without assistance. These modifications included Braille signs, wider stalls, ramps instead of steps, lower sinks with padding to prevent injury to legs, warning sounds and textured walkways to warn of an intersection.

However, no modifications are needed for a transgender person to use either restroom. Thus, there was no need to create new, separate bathrooms. Most transgender persons were fine with using the restroom they identified with. They were not even noticed. Why would a woman that is dressing as a man, interacting publicly as a man, want to use a woman’s restroom?

In conclusion, I believe it would serve most of the public to continue to provide men/women’s restrooms. If a man, dressed as a woman, uses a stall in the woman’s restroom without incident, fine. If they walk in and stand in the stall, they are still in the privacy of the stall and taking care of their personal needs. If they come out and expose themselves, they were never a transgender, they were posing as a woman to gain access to commit a sexual crime. Identify them and arrest them as a deviant.

If a woman, dressed as a man, enters a men’s room and uses a stall no problem. I would not imagine them trying to use a urinal. But if they exposed themself to men, book them.

As always, parents should escort their young children to the restroom, men’s or women’s. Always be wary. Passing a bill will not prevent sexual predators or crimes. Passing a bill requiring a person to provide a birth certificate to prove they are “eligible” to use a public restroom seems cumbersome for law enforcement. Require law enforcement only when a sexual crime has been committed, they will be more apt to respond appropriately. Allow those that have made the decision to live their private life as something other than what biology gifted them. As long as they keep that private, even in a public place, okay.

  5. Does this community and the state need to take a hit on state sales tax revenue with this unnecessary bathroom bill? If you have not noticed, our sales tax revenues are in a free fall which in turn will INCREASE PROPERTY taxes. Do you honestly want higher property taxes? In over 60 years of public bathroom use, I have never encountered any of the issues this bill points to. No one in my family has either. I can no longer vote against my own self interest.

    1. Well, if the NFL wants to stay away, good riddance! Their threat of not playing and depriving us of sales tax revenue is a joke!! How many teams have threatened to leave or demand all sorts of taxpayer incentives to put a team somewhere? It’s extortion that too many local politicians will gladly build a new stadium courtesy of the taxpayers saddling them with debt and taxes for years. Keep your $100 in sales tax revenue, and I’ll keep my taxes lower by $3000.

  6. Does anyone actually care what “Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lawrence, and Ewan McGregor” have to say about laws in this state? We live here, we elect our representatives to stand for our values, we do not need the liberal left wing entertainment types trying to tell us how to live. As I look at the morals of the entertainment types on that short list, none are an example I want my child to follow. The majority of the people support Senator Kolhorst which is why we keep electing her. The loud by small minority who support these perversions do not speak for us. Keep men out of the ladies room!

  7. I support her! I do not know where you get the idea that the majority of the people think allowing Men into the Ladies room is a good idea. I must admit, I do not know a single person who supports this.

  8. Perhaps Kolhorst should put the good of the Country over those of her ambitions and her political party. It would be nice if the politicians would remember who elected them, why they are there and whose money they are wasting with their idiotic pubilicity stunts.

    1. I think she is very aware of who voted for her. And I think she’s aware of who will continue to support her for doing what is right. If any public money is being spent to keep a man out of my bathroom, I consider it well spent. Although, it is very sad that it actually has to come to that.

    2. I don’t know what you consider to be “good” for our country, but I believe that standing up for common sense is. This is not a publicity stunt. What’s “idiotic” is that there even needs to be a law like this in the first place, but sadly, there does.

    3. She did put the good of the Country over the crying of a few deranged sexual deviants who don”t know whether to stand or squat!

  9. I don’t want my daughter, wife, mom or sister to have to worry that some man will walk into their bathroom. I don’t see why that escapes some people. I have agreed with most of Senator Kolkhorst’s positions on the issues and I will stand with her here. It is the right thing to do.

  10. No, I think you will find a great many women who very much prefer to not have men in the bathroom with them. I don’t even want that at home, much less in public. Lois Kolkhorst is a true American, a true Texan, a trustworthy public servant, a remarkably kind and loving person and a devoted child of God. Men have no business in the women’s restroom. THAT is common sense.

  11. Of course she will stand behind it. She will need the support of the Governor and Lt. governors AND the GOP party when she runs for Cornyns office. She will do as the party tells her, and NOT what the majority of the citizens she represents wish. And it is obvious by the response comments published on this news site on the first announcement of bathroom bill, the majority of citizens think the bill is ridiculous. She needs to put her ambitions aside, find her common sense and represent the majority.

      1. As the mother of two daughters and a child of God, I agree wholeheartedly with this bill. How one chooses to live their life is their own prerogative but it should not be thrust upon us and infringe on my rights. Speaking from experience with my daughters, it would be an enormous burden on them to have to share a restroom or locker room with a male student. Private business will still get to choose their own restroom policy and I can choose whether or not to be a patron based on that policy. However, I cannot choose to send my kids to school (where my tax dollars are spent). Mrs. Kolkhorst, you have my vote and my admiration. It is hard in today’s society to have an opinion such as this and fight Hollywood and the left. You are strong and have my support! God bless you.

    1. Majority of what? There is no reason for these people to be catered too. These deranged people have no business going into womens restrooms. And before all these parents start with “But my child is a”, you have flat out failed as a parent to correct this issue before it came to this. You go Lois, you already have the support you need.

    2. The vocal minority who comment on here against the bathroom bill do not represent the majority of voters in Texas. Neither do the out-of-touch Hollywood actors.

Do you think men should be in bathrooms with our wives and daughters? Do you think boys should be allowed to shower and dress with girls in our schools? If so, it is you who are out of touch.

Thank you for doing what is right, Senator. Don’t let the liberal media, Hollywood, or the vocal minority sway you from doing what is right.

      1. I hate to real this to you but there have been men in women’s bathrooms for many years and nobody has ever had an issue with it! It is only the sick and twisted individuals who could care less whether there is a law in place or not that will commit crimes. Just because there is a law on place will not keep these people from committing these horrible acts against anyone. It will help with penalties and jail time but it will not stop it! There are drug laws and alcohol laws and many other laws that do not stop people from committing crimes so how will this law help? There are many more issues I think the legislature could more wisely use their time and our money to do for this state.

        1. How did you feel when the Obama administration was spending time and money to tell our public schools they had to let boys in the girls restrooms and locker rooms? Did you speak up then? This has become an issue because the far left has turned it into one. Liberals cheered Obama on when he first made it an issue but now that the silent majority has woken up, you want to sweep it under the rug and say it shouldn’t be an issue. You can’t have it both ways. If you are upset that it has become an issue, you can thank Obama, Hollywood, and the liberal media for that. This bill is a reaction to the moral decay that has been pushed on us.
