KWHI INVESTIGATING BLINN BRYAN BOOKSTORE BIDS

As part of an investigative report, KWHI News has asked Blinn College for the names of the companies or individuals who bid on the bookstore contract for the Bryan campus.

Richard Bray, Associate Director of Marketing and Communications for Blinn College, has told KWHI that he is unable to release the names of those who bid on the Bryan bookstore contract.  Bray said KWHI must file an official open records request in order for the information to be released.  KWHI President and General Manager Tom Whitehead filed that request Thursday.  In checking on its status today (Friday), Whitehead was told that Rebecca Ruffino, the person in charge of open records requests, is not in the office today (Friday).

KWHI hopes to have information on the Bryan bookstore bids sometime next week.

  1. I agree!!!!!!
Rainey is all about the money! (he may have lost , by his bookstore not getting the contract)
Thank you KWHI for checking this out!
This whole thing is ridiculous about the bill he filed.
Blinn College is Blinn; not Brenham, not Bryan, not Sealy, not Schulenburg; it’s Blinn College, just like Mr. David Reynolds said at the candidate’s forum Thursday night.

  2. You are so wise, KWHI! It just hit me that if Raney has made a bid on the bookstore at Blinn and he was NOT the winning bid then it is very possible that someone from Blinn in Bryan might have said that if Bryan had control over its own money, Raney’s store would have been picked.
But that doesn’t make sense? Wouldn’t the Board still make that decision regardless?

  3. Last time i purchased a college text for a Blinn class, cost was the same to me on either campus. They are all rip offs. Paperless is the way to go, except the paper publishers have a strong lobby for our politicians pockets.

  4. Good idea follow the money. Any parent who has sent a child to college and paid $100.00 for a book the professor never refers to the entire semester and then gets $15.00 for it when class is over knows the scam these book stores employ. The Texas Education Committees in Austin may want to check that out. Write your Senator put some heat on Rainy before he walks away with the Blinn Washington County paid for.

  5. I think this is a good idea, but I think there needs to be more investigation, such as a request for email from administrative individuals on the Bryan campus related to the selection of the bid.
