KWHI TO GET NEW FM FREQUENCY

Radio Station KWHI in Brenham is getting a new tower, and a new FM frequency.

KWHI President and General Manager Tom Whitehead says he is happy to announce that KWHI will soon be heard at 101.7 on the FM dial, along with the familiar 1280 frequency on AM. The Federal Communications Commission has allowed AM radio stations to apply for low power FM translators, and KWHI was granted a license for 101.7 earlier this year.  Whitehead says the new FM frequency will carry the same local programming as 1280, but will be a clearer signal at night.

As part of the upgrade process, KWHI is getting a new tower on the west side of Brenham near the Highway 290 cloverleaf.  The tower will replace one at the same location that was built in the 70’s.  Whitehead says the new 101.7 frequency should be on the air in about three weeks.  During construction of the new tower, KWHI will have to operate on a lower power at times.  Whitehead asks listeners to please bear with us during this period, as the new tower and FM frequency should bring about an upgraded listening experience.  In the meantime, listeners can also hear KWHI’s programming online using their computer at www.kwhi.com, or their cellphone through the KWHI app.
