LABOR DAY MARKS END OF TXDOT “STEP WAVE” PROGRAM

  

The Labor Day holiday traditionally marks the end of summer; this year’s celebration also marked the end of Brenham Police Department’s participation in the Texas Department of Transportation’s STEP WAVE grant.  The department was awarded the grant in December 2014 and participated in four separate “wave” cycles.

Chief Dant Lange says that “The program provides federal money to fund overtime for officers to work during times set by TxDot. The focus on the holidays is a direct response to the increase of alcohol related accidents during those times. There are four specified wave periods in the grant, with the first one in December,”

“This program is a good reminder for both the officers and the public about the dangers of drinking and driving. We were very pleased to have been awarded the grant, which allowed off duty officers the ability to patrol specifically for drunk drivers while our on-duty officers were able to perform their regular duties. It was a win-win for the community,” Lange continued.
