The LaGrange Lady Leopards softball team is the new #1 team in USA Today’s Super 25 National High School Softball rankings.

The Lady Leopards (24-1) moved into the #1 spot this past week, after wins over Bellville (10-0) and Caldwell (11-1).

LaGrange had been #5 in last week’s poll, but moved up to the top spot after losses by three of the nation’s top four teams.

The Lady Leopards have won 24 in a row after dropping their season opener to 6A power house Mansfield, 4-3 in extra-innings at the Bryan/College Station Tournament in February.

Missy Zoch has led the Lady Leopards in the circle, with a 17-1 record and an ERA of 0.40. Zoch has struck out 178 batters in 104 innings pitched.

Blake-Ann Fritsch leads the team in batting (.609), with 44 runs scored in 25 games. Amber Loehr has five home runs and a team-leading 42 runs batted in. Briana Angel leads the team with six home runs and has scored 32 runs, while driving in 34.

Four other Texas teams are in the Top-25: #5-San Antonio Johnson; #6-Deer Park; #12-Eastlake; and, #16-San Benito.
