LAKE SOMERVILLE LEASES BRING $170,306

Of the total $3.5 million made during the sale by the Bureau of Land Management, the Lake Somerville area’s 6 parcels that were auctioned on June 6th brought in just $170,306, according to the Banner Press.

The highly controversial sale went on despite strong protests.

The highest bid acreage was in Live Oak County, selling at $1,202 an acre for 976.8 acre parcel by Sea Eagle Ford. The total for that parcel came to $1.2 million.

The other counties in the sale include Burleson, McMullen, Live Oak, and Jackson.

There were 17 parcels total auctioned off during the 3-hour online auctions.

According to the Bureau of Land Management New Mexico office, the National government receives a royalty of 12.5% of the value of production.

The State Government will receive a 25% minimum share of the bonus bid and the royalty revenue from each lease issued in their state.

  1. To Ozarka. Then you must not be eating at the local restaurants, using the schools, hospitals, caterers, or nursing homes? The majority of those places serve food, and 75% of the food you are served is cooked in the tap water.

  2. Wow, a bunch of cry babies. The city of Brenham drinking water comes from the water in Lake Somerville, not 3-5,000 feet underground. The water travels to Brenham in a 36 inch pipe goes to the water treatment plant and is treated.

This has nothing to do with the city manager, but the Federal Govt., local officials could not stop it. Like me and many that in in the County, have oil wells and water wells on the same land. My water is clean and taste good.

    1. in case of a leak or spill that drinking water will become contaminated, That’s the issue.

    2. Wise up
      The government is the government
Regardless of what level you are talking about. If one level of government cannot effectively communicate with the other levels of government; neither parties deserve or should be in a position to serve the citizens.
We ar the citizens. We are the tax payers.
      WE ARE YOUR BOSS !!!!
Unfortunately, the government employees responsible for this should be fired. But that won’t happen. But, we know who made or ignored these decisions. And at any future date the citizens can hold you accountable for your actions or lack of actions.

      1. What level of govt. are you alleging was involved in this decision? Try and take an objective view on this matter, would taxes collected off of these wells not reduce your tax rates? Just looking for clarification.

        1. Give me a break. Hold your breath and your cat’s breath too for that to come true. Taxes will only go down after the next revolution. And then, 150 years after that, if the world still exists, maybe your relatives will be taking down some more historical statues. Get Real.

          1. “The glass is half full” NOT half empty! Don’t worry, “Be Happy” I couldn’t hold my cat’s breath even if I tried, Really Hard!”

  3. Well I guess we all know what our health and well being mean to our federal representatives, ZERO. That $ 170,306, will just about pay for secret service protection for a single round of golf. But no amount of money will give life to your child or loved one who died from the cancer they will get from the fracking chemicals in the drinking water and food they consume at home, school and restaurants. Reverse Osmosis filtering systems cannot remove all of the contaminants, and you will never know when they are in your water till our children fall seriously ill. All of our federal representatives were sent copies of the cities official resolution opposing the auction, and copies of the Banner Press editorials. They did nothing but give us lip service.

  4. Brenham’s water quality was sold out for $170,000. Or, $100 for each of our city citizens per our cities population. Wow. City management, elected officials, public utilities director, I don’t understand your position on this.

    1. Only the city manager and elected officials are required to live in the city. Others who do not live in the city will not be drinking the water.

      1. somerville lake is in more than one county the other counties also have leased their land. Same lake same water so it would do no good even if Washington county did not lease it’s land[ for those of you who fear a drilling catastrophe].I say $170,000 is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

        1. I left Michigan (remember Flint) because of bad decisions like this. It appears that other people left Michigan too. Unfortunately, the bad planners and the ones that are creating new problems like this; must have followed me.
