LAKE SOMERVILLE PARKS LIKELY CLOSED THROUGH LABOR DAY

Officials at Lake Somerville say the parks will likely remain closed beyond Labor Day.

The water level is over 12' above normal.

Emmitt Attaway, Lake Manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, says that if everything goes well with the weather, officials hope to have the parks completely open again by next spring.

Attaway said that while some areas of Lake Somerville's parks and marina are slowly becoming accessible, the water levels and time needed to repair damages will probably prevent the parks from reopening in time for the last holiday of the summer.

Yegua Creek Park is closed through the end of this month. Rocky Creek Park will remain closed through Sept. 30.

Birch Creek and Nails Creek state parks are expected to remain closed beyond September, according to Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's website.

Meanwhile, Somerville City Administrator Marty Mangum tells the Bryan/College Station Eagle, that he estimates about a 10 percent drop in revenue from hotel occupancy taxes due to the drastic drop in tourism.

Currently the lake level is at 250.28 feet—twelve feet above normal.
