LARGE CROWD TURNS OUT FOR MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM

United States military members and veterans were honored during the annual Memorial Day Service at Fireman’s Park, Monday.

The event is sponsored by the Washington County Veterans association, which is made of members of all the different veteran groups in the county.

The featured speaker was Col. Jim Sackreiter, a local retired U.S. Air Force pilot.

Col. Sackreiter told those in attendance, Americans should be proud of those who gave their lives for their country…

Sackreiter went on to say that most people, especially the younger people, need to know of the real meaning of Memorial Day…

Current and former members of the military were recognized throughout the event, with special emphasis on World War I, as 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the United States entering the war.

KWHI broadcast the program live.
