Weather Update for Washington County: Hurricane Harvey has been downgraded to a tropical storm.This weather event will continue to impact Washington County and the surrounding area over the next 5 days. The storm’s projected path remains uncertain, but it is anticipated to move slowly through southeast Texas with the possibility of flooding for some. Outer bands of the storm may bring torrential rains to Washington County and the surrounding area. Reported rainfall totals for Washington County range from 3 to 8 inches over the last 24 hours. Heavier rainfall totals have been reported in the Western portion of the County at this time. There continues to be the possibility of severe weather including the chance of isolated tornadoes. Areas in Washington County that are prone to flooding may flood during this event. As the storm continues on it’s path, there will be times of heavy downpours and of little to no rain. Be diligent throughout this weather event and stay tuned to the local media. You can view Washington County road closure status updates at http://harvey.cityofbrenham.org . If road flooding does occur please TURN AROUND AND DON’T DROWN. DO NOT DRIVE INTO WATER. If you see water over a roadway or barricades are blocking the roadway, STOP!  Do not move them. TURN AROUND - DON’T DROWN!

What You Can Do To Prepare: Public Safety Officials ask that you listen to local media outlets. If you are in a flood prone area, take the necessary precautions to protect yourself, family, pets and property. Secure loose items in your yard and property, move livestock to higher ground, ensure pets have access to food and water in a dry and safe location, have supplies on hand, such as water, prescriptions and non-perishable food items.

There is not an official shelter established at this time in Washington County. Washington County is a “pass-through” area due to our proximity to the storm’s path. If this changes, the public will be notified.

  1. Where can I get some sandbags for a neighbor who is trying to keep water out of her house ?

    1. Hardware stores sell bags then you have to buy the sand. Or buy potting mulch, it’s cheaper. Or use bags of play sand. Good luck
