LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN THROUGH DOWNTOWN

The Gulf Coast leg of the Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run made it's way across Brenham this morning. The group of Law Enforcement Officers hopes to raise awareness for the Special Olympics program.  They had a dinner and live auction last night at the American Legion Hall in Brenham and will move on to Conroe, and Huntsville today.  On Friday, they will head toward their final destination, The University of Texas at Arlington, where they will be joined by other groups from around the state.  The University of Texas at Arlington campus is the site of the Special Olympics State Summer Games, which will start on Friday, May 22, 2015.

In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985.  At its most basic level, the Torch Run is a running event where officers and athletes run the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” to the opening ceremonies of competitions.  Special Olympics Texas is a privately funded non-profit organization, providing year-round sports training and athletic competition to over 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Lone Star State.  For more information about Special Olympics Texas and/or the Law Enforcement Torch Run, visit www.sotx.org or call 1-800-876-JOIN (5646).
