LEADERS SPEAK AT LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT FORUM

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce held a Leaders in Law Enforcement Forum today at the Fairgrounds Event Center.  Speaking at the event were Brenham’s new police chief Craig Goodman, Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, and Texas Ranger Jeff Wolf.  Each of the three discussed the challenges their office faces and also fielded questions from those attending the forum.

Police Chief Goodman, who took command in September, talked about his ride along experiences with the officers in Brenham.  He also talked about how the Citizens on Patrol and the Citizens Police Academy programs are essential to his department:

Texas Ranger Jeff Wolf spoke on how law enforcement needs to work with the community.  He also fielded a question about body cameras for officers:

Sheriff Hanak talked about how the recent negative national publicity about law enforcement has made it difficult to recruit young people into the profession.  He also talked about an incident that occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday:

The next event for the chamber will be their annual banquet where the man and woman of the year are announced.  That is scheduled for February 2nd of next year.
