LEDBETTER FIRE BURNS 60 ACRES, DESTROYS BARN
A grass fire in Ledbetter was propelled by gusty winds on Sunday, ultimately burning over 60 acres.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in just before 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon reporting a grass fire on Bell Settlement Road off FM 1291.
The Ledbetter Fire Department responded to the scene and immediately requested assistance from the Carmine and Round Top-Warrenton Fire Departments. Before the fire was contained, it burned 60 acres and destroyed a barn. In addition, the fire engulfed a Kubota tractor and 35 round bales of hay.
The fire is believed to have started from a previous control burn earlier in the week and was fueled by the high winds. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
