LEIGHTON SCHUBERT SAYS HE WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION

State Representative Leighton Schubert

State Representative Leighton Schubert announced Thursday that he will not seek re-election to a third term in the Texas House.  He had filed last week for the Republican Primary in March.  The deadline for other candidates to file for the March ballot is next Monday at 6:00 PM.  Schubert says that his family has made tremendous sacrifices to allow him to serve, and that now he needs to spend more time with them.  He said that at the end of the day he is a family man and his family comes first.  Schubert said that he cares deeply for this area and the decision was not an easy one.

Schubert won a 2015 special election to replace Lois Kolkhorst, who had won a special election for Texas Senate District 18.  He is currently in his second term representing Texas House District 13 that includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca and Washington Counties. Schubert resides in Caldwell with his wife Brittany and son Declan.
