Lifetime Learning is sponsoring a presentation next month on “A Day in the Life of a Rocket Scientist,” featuring NASA scientist Michael Harrison.

The program will be held Sunday, July 26 from 3-5 p.m. in the Blinn College Student Center’s conference room.

The lecture fee is $20 per person. The registration deadline is July 20.

Harrison will provide an overview of NASA’s EOS Aura satellite told from the prospective of someone who supported the integration of the spacecraft on the ground, participated in the launch and provided several years of on-orbit support.

Harrison said his passion is to bridge the gap between the opaque jargon of the scientific world and the general public after noticing that the public struggles to understand science and technology.

He has presented talks on a wide range of subjects relating to space technology. Due to his background in astro and particle physics he is often requested to address the “Big Bang Theory,” relativity, dark matter/energy and the mysteries of sub-nuclear world of quantum mechanics.

He uses real world examples and analogies that allow people to understand these theories and to shed light into science and technology.

Harrison has been a film maker since the age of 12. He has studied screenwriting and film making at the American Film Institute and Panavision Workshops.

Harrison has a Bachelor of Science degree in theoretical physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He studied aerospace systems architecture at the University of Southern California and optics for astronomy at El Camino College.
