LOBOS DISCOVERS $88,000, LEADS TO MONEY LAUNDERING ARREST
Fayette County K-9 Lobos helped seize over $85,000 on Friday, leading to an arrest for money laundering.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports Sgt. Randy Thumann and Lobos stopped a Dodge pickup truck on Interstate 10 just before noon on Friday.
Thumann said the driver, 48-year-old David Sanchez, of Falfurrias, had an “unreasonable story” for traveling. Consent was not given to search the vehicle, so Lobos conducted an exterior sweep- alerting to the driver side door of the truck for the presence of illegal narcotics.
Once inside the truck, Lobos alerted to a backpack located on the floor. Thumann opened the bag and discovered approximately $88,000 of U.S. currency.
Sanchez denied the money was his and was booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center for felony money laundering.
New cop car and Scooby snacks for Lobos!
Now, what happens to that money?
Eventually the district judge will award it to the county, probably split up by the SO and the DA.
