LOBOS LOCATES MARIJUANA HIDDEN IN FUEL TANK

Fayette County K9 Lobos has located another hidden stash of marihuana in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 10.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that this (Monday) morning around 10 am, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Lobos, stopped a Ford F-150 on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation.

During the road side interview, Sgt. Thumann identified several indicators that the driver was possibly trafficking illegal narcotics. Consent to search the vehicle was given and Lobos was deployed to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann observed Lobos alert to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle’s auxiliary fuel tank. Sgt. Thumann accessed the compartment and observed 11 wrapped bundles of marihuana which weighed approximately 109 pounds, with an approximate street value of $50,000.

Arrested and charged with felony Possession of marijuana was Arturo Pena (35) of Zapata Texas, who was transported to the Fayette County Jail.

    1. What we really need to worry about is these vehichles being confiscated off of STATE highways. What’s happening to them, where are they going?? I saw this same thing in the 80’s when The city of Burton had a whole police department, 2 or 3 cruisers writing speeding tickets right and left. The state finally shut them down because the city of Burton was taking in TOO much of their city profits off of a STATE highway. Think about it.

      1. You mean INTERSTATE highway 10? Should the FBI start making traffic stops on federally funded roads? That’s not really how Federalism, or the law right now, works.

        The vehicles are either being released to the rightful owners after paying the tow yard, or they’re being legally seized like other drug runner vehicles have been for years.
