LOCAL ATTORNEY NAMED “BEST IN AMERICA”

  

A local attorney has been selected as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” by Best Lawyers publication.

Laura Upchurch, a partner in the law firm of Moorman Tate Haley Upchurch & Yates, LLP, located in Brenham, has been distinguished for a fourth year in a row. Her selection to the 23rd Edition of “The Best Lawyers in America,” honors her work in the area of Elder Law.

The Best Lawyers publication is the oldest peer review guide for the legal profession worldwide. Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based on a rigorous peer-review survey comprising more than 7.3 million evaluations by top lawyers.

A large portion of Upchurch’s practice focuses on elder law, guardianships, and probate matters, particularly in contested cases involving guardianships, estates and trusts.  Upchurch recently completed a four-year term as a member of the council governing the Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law section of the State Bar of Texas, on which she has served as chair of the Guardianship Committee, responsible for developing and monitoring legislation affecting guardianships in Texas.

Based on her experience, Upchurch participated in a panel discussion at the State Bar of Texas’s Advanced Guardianship Course in Dallas, Texas, on April 14, 2016, regarding changes to the Texas Guardianship Code enacted by the Texas legislature in 2015. Upchurch  also spoke recently on the subject of “Supported Decision-Making: A New Alternative to Guardianship,” at the Estate Planning, Guardianship and Elder Law Conference presented by the University of Texas School of Law on August 11-12, 2016, in Galveston.

Upchurch received her undergraduate degree in History from the University of Texas at Austin, and her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.
