LOCAL DOCTOR ADRESSES ZIKA CONCERNS

A Brenham doctor says that while the highly-publicized Zika virus is “mild” compared to most viruses, there is reason for concern.

Dr. William Loesch, and internist at the Brenham Clinic says the Zika Virus, for the most part, just causes minor aches, pains, chills and fever—except in pregnant women…

Dr. Loesch says there is no treatment for Zika, only supportive care such as: getting rest, drinking lots of fluids and taking medicine such as acetaminophen to reduce fever and pain.

Loesch also says the virus is spread mostly by mosquitos, and to avoid any contact with the pests.

While there have been no cases locally of the Zika virus, there have been six cases confirmed in Texas so far—all involving people who recently traveled to foreign countries.

Loesch also urges anyone who feels they may have contracted the virus to contact their physician immediately.
