LOCAL JOBLESS RATE FALLS SLIGHTLY IN SEPTEMBER
The Washington County jobless rate saw a slight drop in September.
The local jobless rate was 5.5-percent—down one-tenth from 5.6-percent in August.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the September labor force was 15,419 – with 14,313 employed. In August, 14,272 people were employed out of a workforce of 15,126.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 4.8 percent in September, up slightly from 4.7 percent in August -- below the national rate of 5 percent.
Most adjacent counties also saw slight decreases:
Austin County — down 2-tenths at 5.7 percent.
Brazos County — down 3-tenths to 3.6 percent.
Burleson County — down 3-tenths at 4.9 percent.
Fayette County —remained unchanged at 4.1 percent.
Grimes County — dropped 4-tenths to 7.2 percent.
Lee County — dipped 1-tenth at 4.1 percent.
And, Waller County — down 4-tenths at 6 percent.
