LOCAL MAN TO RUN FOR MAYOR

A long-time Brenham chiropractor has announced plans to challenge Mayor Milton Tate in his bid for reelection.

62-year old Gary Gabriel has filed to run in the May 9th city election against Tate, who has been mayor since 2003.

Gabriel, who has lived in Brenham for 57 years, served on the Brenham City Council from 1986-to-1989.  He also served on the Planning and Zoning and the Redistricting Commission.

Gabriel says his main concern is to insure that Brenham has the “best trained, best equipped and best paid police department in the state of Texas.”

Gabriel says, “With the continued migration of people from Houston, we need to let people involved in criminal enterprise know that Brenham is not a place to set up shop.”

Gabriel also served as president of the Friends of the Brenham Animal Shelter and as an officer with the State Chiropractic Association.

Two other posts on the City Council are also up for election: Ward-Two held by Weldon Williams and Ward-Four held by Danny Goss.  Both have filed for re-election.

The filing period for the city races runs through Friday, February 27th.
