  1. My wife works at RR Donnelley which is open today even though it is unsafe for most employees to get there. Isn’t the safety and welfare of your employees more important than production?!!! Hopefully people won’t get in trouble for not making it to work since it was unsafe to try.

  2. Bread Partners of Washington County will not be running their food distribution/pantry routes on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Also, Burton Bridge Ministry’s Manna Food Pantry will be closed on Tuesday.
I know. It seems odd that the rural food pantries would be closed, but many of our volunteers are unable to leave their own homes. And we do not want our clients leaving theirs when it is not prudent to do so. In addition, these are rural pantries…in areas with many road closures.

  3. The Brenham Tempursealy-Sealy plant will resume operations on Monday, August 28th at 8am. Both shifts are to report at this time as there will be no 2nd shift production on Monday. Before coming to the plant be sure to check road conditions and only report if you can do so safely.

We will continue to monitor the weather and if conditions change another update will be posted. Attendance is not mandatory please only come if you are safe doing so.

  4. Way to go Longwood! What a way to think of employees! Would it kill you to close for one day to think of employees safety instead of making them feel like they have to get to work in this devestation?!

      1. They do state that only if you can come in safely. Seems to me that the do care. I don’t see you complaining about Sealy still running operations. The economy is going to suffer enough already… why not work if you can safely and lessen the hit to the already impeding devastation this will have the local economy.

        1. I did not mention Sealy because I do not have family that works at Sealy. I do have family at Longwood, so pardon me. Also Longwood stated only if it is safe for people in outlying areas. What if you are not in an outlying area but still do not feel safe or what if you had children at home because school is cancelled and no one to watch them. At least Sealy did state that attendance is not mandatory so there is no pressure regarding your own personal situation. Do not preach to me about the economy, I have plenty of experience with it and my comments were not directed about the economy, it was directed about safety. If you had any experience in manufacturing you would know that safety comes first.

          1. Wow… I didn’t mean to offend, and I have actually worked in manufactuing for 8 years. I do have family that work in manufacturing, but neither at Sealy or Longwood though. Although, with every company I have worked for, if there was a natural disaster and I couldn’t make it, I have never been penalized for it. It could be that they didn’t put to many specifics in their comment to run operation and will think better next time. If they are indeed going to penalize those that have good reason not to show up, then yes – they need to rethink their policies. But unless you are the management making those decisions, you nor I will ever understand their true reasoning for it. Also, I wan’t ‘preaching’ about the economy, I too have plenty of experience as do many others.
I was simply trying to give an un-bias opinion regarding the situation since you comment was so very not.
